Terms & Conditions

Welcome to The Canberra Celebrant — your trusted Celebrant service in Canberra and surrounds. These Terms and Conditions govern your use of this website and the services offered by Gilbert Miller, Civil Celebrant (hereinafter referred to as “the Celebrant”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By accessing this site or engaging our services, you agree to be bound by these terms.

  1. Services Provided

The Celebrant provides legal and non-legal ceremonial services including, but not limited to:

  • Weddings
  • Commitments
  • Vow Renewals
  • Naming Ceremonies
  • Funerals and Memorials

All wedding services comply with the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth) and associated legislation.

  1. Booking & Payments
  • A non-refundable booking fee (usually 25%) is required to secure your date.
  • The balance is payable no later than 14 days before your ceremony.
  • Services are not confirmed until the booking fee is received.
  • Payment plans may be available upon request and subject to agreement.
  • Full details of travel fees and optional extras are outlined on their respective pages and are considered part of these Terms & Conditions.

 

  1. Cancellations & Refunds
  • The booking fee is non-refundable under all circumstances.
  • Cancellations more than 30 days before the ceremony may be eligible for a partial refund (excluding the booking fee).
  • Cancellations within 30 days of the ceremony are non-refundable.

In the rare case that the Celebrant cannot perform the ceremony due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., illness), every effort will be made to arrange a suitable replacement or provide a full refund.

  1. Legal Requirements (Marriage Services Only)
  • Couples must complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least one month before the wedding date.
  • Both parties must provide original documentation (e.g., birth certificates, divorce decrees) to establish eligibility.
  • It is the client’s responsibility to ensure all legal documentation is correctly completed and submitted within the required timeframes.
  1. Client Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate information.
  • Treat the Celebrant with respect and courtesy.
  • Arrive on time and be prepared for meetings and the ceremony.

Failure to cooperate reasonably may result in cancellation of services without refund.

  1. Ceremony Content

You will have input into the content of your ceremony, subject to legal requirements and reasonable time constraints. The final version must be approved by both parties at least 7 days before the ceremony.

  1. Use of Photos & Testimonials

With your consent, we may use photos, videos, or testimonials for promotional purposes, including on our website and social media. Consent will always be requested in writing.

  1. Website Use

All content on this site is the intellectual property of Gilbert Miller – The Canberra Celebrant. It may not be reproduced without permission.

  1. Privacy

Your personal information will be collected and used solely for the purpose of providing celebrancy services and complying with legal obligations. Information will not be shared without your consent unless required by law.

  1. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms & Conditions at any time. Continued use of the website or services after changes are published constitutes acceptance of those changes.

  1. Travel Policy

Travel within 30km of central Canberra is included in the standard service fee. Travel beyond this area may incur additional charges, which are outlined on the Travel Fees page. Any additional charges will be confirmed in writing before acceptance of the booking.

  1. Optional Extras

You may choose to add optional services such as:

  • Ceremony rehearsals
  • Premium scripting or theme development
  • Keepsake certificates or printed materials
  • PA system hire

A full list of these optional extras and their pricing is available on request. Any agreed-upon extras will be itemised in your client service agreement.

 

  1. Force Majeure / Unforeseen Circumstances

If an event outside the Celebrant’s control (e.g., extreme weather, natural disaster, illness, or government-imposed restrictions) prevents the service from proceeding as planned, both parties will work in good faith to reschedule. Where this is not possible, partial refunds or credits may be offered at the Celebrant’s discretion.
